Yesterday was one of those [extremely] rare days I got to mix business with… business. In a previous post, I mentioned my life outside #HashtagiDo as a News Producer. My days revolve around keeping up with current events and most of my time is spent researching and writing. It’s a vicious cycle.
For as long as I’ve been in TV news, doing stories about creative marriage proposals has been one my favorite types of stories to write– and it’s a bonus when there’s a local angle to the story. One of my assignments yesterday was about a local couple who became engaged while skydiving in Monterey! What made it all awesome was that there was video of the whole thing. The video popped up on my Facebook feed because the couple and I have a mutual friend (thanks Bryan!)
The moment I saw it, I got in touch with them to see if I could use their video for my show and asked if they had any interest in doing a skype interview to help me tell their story.
Erin and Matthew were SO easy to talk to and were adorable! Our interview came just two days after the proposal happened; it was so fresh Erin actually referred to Matthew as her “boyfriend!”
Matthew explained that he had been planning this surprise for months and was really nervous about pulling it off. Erin said she was mostly nervous for him–because he was way more “freaked out” about the jump than she was. Erin landed minutes after he did, and said her guide joked around about the “will you marry me” sign being for him…but because she was nervous she didn’t think anything of it. As they got closer, he had to firmly suggest she read it. It was that moment she figured out what was going on.
I loved being able to get to know the super adorable couple because it made telling their story that much easier. Here’s a look at the final product! PS: Congratulations Erin & Matthew!
